This list is an autogenerated sample from tens of thousands
of companies and nonprofits (as well as a few lobbyists and
politicians) using an extension of the approach described in
our first report. The major changes were the incorporation of entity links
using the data in the 'Associations' tab and term
associations from webcrawls of entity-related websites.

Any vendor annotations were added to the original federal contracts list by Tech Inquiry. New Zealand procurement records do not have
a dedicated field for the awarded vendor -- at best, there is a
mention in the comments. When no vendor is clearly referenced,
we deviate from our usual practice by annotating the vendors
whose products are being procured (even if indirectly).

* International Business Machines Corporation (dba IBM) starts their fiscal year in
January.
*** Many companies (only) report the taxes they paid over a subset of their income: often excluding the income from spun-off companies, minority interests in subsidiaries, and/or extraordinary events. We refer to the excluded income as "secondary" and the remaining, reported income as "primary".
***** Rough yearly market capitalizations were computed using the product of the last share price for the fiscal year (retrieved through the yfinance API with stock splits reversed back to the quote date) multiplied by the weighted average of the number of outstanding (basic or diluted) shares for the fiscal year reported in the 10-K. One could question whether it would make more sense to compute the weighted average of the product of the number of outstanding shares with the share price throughout the year -- which would require detailed knowledge of the price history, but Earnings Per Share are computed in a manner similar to our simple approach. For companies with separately traded classes of stock (e.g., Alphabet's GOOGL and GOOG) we sum the market cap calculations for each class.
